We are the Northwest Titans. We are located in Concord, North Carolina. Our school is big and our teachers are great. Our school colors are black, orange and white, like Halloween.
School starts every morning at 9:00 a.m. and ends at 4:00 p.m. We have many clubs and sports we can do. Some of the clubs we can join are Chess Club and Battle of the Books. Our school sports are football, basketball, soccer, baseball, softball, and volleyball.
Our school is a tobacco free school. We had Red Ribbon Week recently, which means we are pledging to be drug free. We have the Titan character traits that we say every morning out loud. The Titan traits are: respectful, honest, responsible, self-disciplined, positive in attitude, and caring. We have a Titan Connect too! The Titan Connect is what we call our morning announcemnts. We watch them every morning on TV in homeroom. On the Titan Connet, two eighth grade students tell us the school announcements.
We are in Mrs. Durrence’s 1st period class. She teaches Social Studies. We are learning about Ancient Greece and the Ancient Olympics. Did you know that the Greeks started the Olympics? We are also going to learn about Ancient Rome. We look forward to seeing you on Skype and getting to know you.

Concord, North Carolina is known for racing and many NASCAR fans.The local Lowes Motor Speedway has two major races every year, The Coca-Cola 500 and The All-Star race. A lot of people from around the country come and camp out at the speedway before the races.The speedway includes nearly 2,000 acres and seats 140,000 people. President George Washington ate lunch and rested in a house that served as the speedways offices on the land.If you are ever in Concord, NC, you should try to attend one of the major races.It’s guaranteed to get you out of your seat!
What are we Learning in Mrs. Durrence's Class?By: Katelynn In Mrs. Durrence’s class we are learning about Ancient Greece and the Ancient Greek Olympics. The Ancient Olympics were started in 776 B.C. Only men could compete and attend. A woman could be killed if she tried to attend. If you won you received an olive wreath to wear on your head. Sometimes winners would get free meals for life!
If you wanted to compete in the Ancient Olympics, you would have to pray to Zeus first. Zeus was the king of the Gods. The Greeks thought the Olympics were a good way to show strength. When the Romans conquered Greece they put a stop to the Olympics. The Romans thought sports were degrading.
We recently finished our classroom Olympic Games! Teams competed against each other in five different events. The winners had the choice of a homework pass or a 5 point coupon. Be sure to check out the picture we took!
